Nature works in cycles: ebbing and flowing, waxing and waning, evolving through phases, in succession, over time. While there are anomalies that don’t follow the “natural order,“ these changes come with their own signals or signs that the pattern has shifted and is going in a different direction. In personal development and business there is often disregard for this cyclical nature, a desire to constantly and consistently win without recognizing the effect or need of seasons or process. Though change and grief have recognized cycles and phases, there is a desire to fast forward through to a happier ending and a better outcome. If you know your patterns, you can flow with them. You can examine them to determine if and how they serve you and if and how you would like to change them. You can reflect on the patterns being presented again and again to determine if you want or need to choose another process or path.

Wheel of Fortune

The Wheel of Fortune in tarot evokes questions of what is or isn’t in our control, and indicates that moving through cycles is part of the process. The cyclical nature of opportunity, possibility, and the likelihood that everything will change with time is presented after the introspection of the Hermit, and precedes the discernment of the Justice card that follows. Whether you will spin, ascend, or drop down may be just where you are in the process; the only thing you may be able to control is your attitude. Though people often feel a futility and a range of negative emotions when faced with circumstances not in their control, comfort can be taken here as well that this is not the stopping point. Tarot itself is a journey, a cycle through ups and downs and stages of the process, with lessons to be learned along the way.
